Greg Beuthin - "Palmito"

Greg "Palmito" Beuthin is a writer, performer and percussionist. He has studied Afro-Caribbean percussion for over fifteen years, and while congas are still his first love, he plays a wide range of primarily Brazilian percussion.  Greg has played with drum troupes, dance classes, percussion ensembles, and Latin-influenced bands.

In 2004 Greg launched the multi-disciplinary performance group called Balé Techlorico.  See more information about the original performance group here.

From 2004-2007 Greg also ran the drum group Orkest Asfalto, an alternative approach to bloco-style Brazilian marching bands incorporating buckets and club rhythms.

Greg's plays have been seen at the Playwrights Foundation Bay Area SHorts (BASH) Festival, the NYC Hip Hop Theatre Festival, Teatro de la Espernza, and the San Francisco and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.  Several of his pieces have been nominated for awards, including the Actor's Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award, and the Rella Lossy Playwright-In-Residence Award.

In addition to performing with Balé Techclorico and Orkest Asfalto, Greg has performed at Theatre of Yugen; Brava Theatre; Intersection for the Arts; and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

After 12 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, Greg has returned to Europe and now lives in Paris.
